Quick steps
- Find your state in the tableTap the state name for our full guide, or the site address to open the government portal directly.
- Look for the citizen services areaMost portals group public services under a heading such as Citizen Corner, e-Services, Online Services or Public Login.
- Choose the task you needTypical options are card details, application status, village or shop list, new card, and member or address change.
- Keep your numbers handyHave the ration card number, Aadhaar of members, and the phone linked to the card next to you before you begin.
- Use the offline route if the service is missingIf your state does not offer that task online, visit the service centre or supply office with the same documents.
Ration card online work in India is done on the food department portal of the state that issued your card, and this page lists those portals for 24 states with the services each one actually offers. Pick your state in the finder above or in the table below, and you land on the real government site instead of a lookalike.
States differ a lot. Some let you apply, change an address and download the card from home, while others still want you at the block or circle office for anything beyond a card search. Knowing that before you start saves a wasted evening. For the download itself, our e-ration card download guide walks through every step.

Smaller states and union territories
For places not in the table, these are the department sites we could check. Services on them are limited, so confirm with the district food office.
- Meghalaya: Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya
- Mizoram: FCS and CA department, Mizoram
- Nagaland: Food and Civil Supplies, Nagaland
- Goa: for ration card online work in Goa, the Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is the department; we could not confirm which card services its site offers, so check with the taluka civil supplies office
- Chandigarh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh: public card reports exist on older addresses, so reach them from the NFSA state portals page
- Ladakh: no separate PDS portal was found; ask the UT supply office
Uttar Pradesh and other states without a guide here are also listed on the NFSA page of state portals.
Old portal addresses that moved
The Centre is shifting states to a shared cloud system called SMART-PDS, and several portals have changed address on the way. If a bookmark gives an error, this is the likely reason.
- Karnataka: the old ahara kar nic address no longer works; use ahara.karnataka.gov.in.
- Chhattisgarh: the old khadya address now sends you to fcs.cg.gov.in.
- West Bengal: the earlier e-ration card page on the food site was removed, and the download now runs on WBPDS with a fresh link each session.
- Uttarakhand: the older RCMS reports went offline after the move to Smart PDS 2.0.
- Haryana and Tripura already run SMART-PDS screens, so menu names differ from older guides.
- Puducherry paused online services for a while to migrate, and its addresses may change again.
What you can do on ration card e-services
Most state portals offer some mix of the services below. Each has its own guide on this site.
| Task | Where we explain it |
|---|---|
| See or save the family card | e-ration card download |
| Check whether the card is active | ration card status by state |
| Find names in the village or shop list | village wise ration card list |
| Apply for a new card | new card application routes |
| Track a submitted form | application tracking |
| Add a new name, such as a child or bride | add a member |
| Change address or fix a spelling | corrections and address change |
| Change the phone number on the card | mobile number update |
| Aadhaar verification of members | eKYC and seeding |
| Move the card to another district or state | card transfer |
Delhi: new applications back on e-District
Delhi kept new ration card applications closed for many years. The state has now reopened applications for new cards and for adding members through the e-District Delhi portal, where the application status is also tracked. Eligibility rules were revised at the same time, so read the conditions on e-District itself before you fill the form, and keep Aadhaar for every member ready. Our Delhi application guide covers the form.
Complaints and help outside the portal
When a portal gives no answer, a complaint often works faster than another visit. Telangana runs a grievance site, Jharkhand has a ration card complaint page on its PDS portal, and the Mera Ration app accepts grievances for all states. Every state's toll free number is on the NFSA toll free list, and the One Nation One Ration Card helpline is 14445.
When the online route is not enough
Some jobs still need a person to sign off. Changing the card category, cancelling a card after a death, or proving a new address in a state that only takes paper forms all finish with an officer at the rationing or tehsil office. Common service centres and state service counters such as MeeSeva, e-Mitra, Akshaya, Atal Seva Kendra and Sewa Kendra can file many of these for you for a small service fee. Take original documents and photocopies, and ask for a receipt with an application number.
