Quick steps
- List the members still pendingOpen the family record on the state PDS site, or simply ask the dealer. Many portals mark each member with a Y or N in an eKYC column.
- Take each pending member to the shopThe person must be present in body. Carry the ration card number and their Aadhaar number.
- Give the fingerprint or iris scanAfter typing the card number, the dealer selects that person's name and you press a finger on the scanner. If the print fails, try other fingers or an iris reader if the shop has one.
- Use the face app if your state allows itDownload Mera eKYC plus the FaceRD helper app, type the card and Aadhaar numbers, and let the camera scan the member's face.
- Recheck status after a few daysThe change may take some days to show. Look at the eKYC column again, and keep the shop slip until it does.
Ration card KYC online is possible only in states that allow face authentication through the Mera eKYC app; everywhere else, eKYC is done free at any fair price shop by placing a finger or eye on the ePoS device. Every member listed on an NFSA card has to complete it once, and members left unverified risk having their share held back or their name removed.
This guide explains both routes, how to check whether each person is done, and what families do when a child or an elderly parent cannot give a fingerprint. Ration card KYC update online happens slowly, so once eKYC is complete, refresh your card through the e-ration card download page.

What eKYC on a ration card is and why it matters
eKYC ties every listed member to the matching Aadhaar record through a fingerprint, iris or face check. It removes duplicate and ghost names and allows One Nation One Ration Card, under which a verified member may draw grain from a shop in another state.
The Centre made eKYC compulsory for every NFSA member, and states run their own drives and deadlines. In practice, a member whose eKYC is pending may find the shop machine refuses their share, and repeated drives have removed names that were never verified. That is why one missing fingerprint can quietly cut the family quota.
Ration card KYC online with the face app
Some states let members finish eKYC on a phone using the Mera eKYC app from the Centre together with UIDAI's FaceRD service. Kerala used the face app for ration mustering, and Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh allow it in their drives. Bihar, Uttarakhand and other states mention it where enabled. If your state has not switched it on, the app will not accept your card, and the shop is the only route.
- Use a phone with a working front camera in good light.
- The member whose face is scanned must be the one selected, holding the phone at eye level.
- The one time code is sent to whichever number is tied to that member's Aadhaar.
Ration card KYC status and Aadhaar link status check
Seeding means the Aadhaar number is stored against the member; eKYC means it was confirmed with a biometric check. Portals show these in different places. Doing a ration card Aadhaar seeding online is possible on some portals, such as Karnataka's Update Aadhaar option, while others take it only at the office.
| State | Where to look | Our guide |
|---|---|---|
| Rajasthan | Aadhaar seeding check on the food portal, linked to Jan Aadhaar | Rajasthan eKYC |
| Maharashtra | Shop device, or the face app during drives | Maharashtra eKYC |
| Karnataka | Linking UID and Update Aadhaar by region on Ahara | Karnataka eKYC |
| Telangana | Member eKYC at the shop ePoS | Telangana eKYC |
| Uttarakhand | Smart PDS card details; face app where enabled | Uttarakhand eKYC |
| Himachal Pradesh | Face eKYC instructions and shop wise status on HP EPDS | HP guide |
For other states, open the card on the portal through our ration card status hub and look for an Aadhaar or eKYC column. The Mera Ration app also shows the members on your card.
Children, elderly and sick members
Children. Small children often have no fingerprints on record, and UIDAI asks for a biometric update in Aadhaar at age five and again at fifteen. Get that update done at an Aadhaar centre first, then try eKYC at the shop. Rules for very young children vary by state, so ask the dealer what your state allows.
Elderly members. Worn fingerprints are common. Try every finger, then the iris scanner or the face app where available. If every method fails, the block level food officer can explain what exception applies to that person.
Bedridden members. Check with the dealer or the rationing inspector whether a home visit or the face app can be used. Do not let the name lapse without asking.
When eKYC fails at the shop
- Aadhaar not seeded on the card: the dealer cannot find the member. Get the Aadhaar added through the supply office or the state portal.
- Name mismatch: correct the ration card or Aadhaar so both match; see ration card correction.
- Mobile not linked to Aadhaar: needed for the face app OTP. An Aadhaar enrolment counter can add or change it.
- Server down: shops lose connection often during drives. Go back on a weekday morning.
- Name already removed: request re-inclusion of that member with Aadhaar and proof of residence.
Never pay anyone to do eKYC. It is free at every shop, and no official needs your OTP over a phone call.
Questions people ask
What is the e KYC full form in a ration card?
It stands for electronic Know Your Customer. For ration cards it means confirming each member's identity against Aadhaar with a fingerprint, iris or face check.
How to do ration card eKYC online from home?
Home eKYC works only by face scan in the Mera eKYC app, in states that have enabled that feature. Otherwise the shop fingerprint check is the route.
Where can I do a ration card ekyc status check or e KYC online check?
Open the card details on your state portal and look for an eKYC or Aadhaar column, or request the dealer to look it up on the shop machine. Some states list it as Y or N for each member.
Can a family member do eKYC in another state?
Yes. One Nation One Ration Card allows NFSA members to verify at a shop in whichever state they live, using the card number and Aadhaar.
What happens if ration card eKYC is not done?
The member's share may be held back, and names that stay unverified can be removed in state drives. Finish it as soon as your state announces a drive.
Is ration card Aadhaar seeding the same as eKYC?
Not quite. Seeding stores the Aadhaar number against a member; eKYC confirms it with a biometric check. Most states now want both.
