| Document | Why |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar of every family member | Each member is verified through Aadhaar, and rations are given only after a fingerprint check |
| Family Income Certificate | Made by the local revenue office (SDM); used to judge eligibility |
| Proof of address in Delhi | Shows the circle and shop you will be attached to |
| Recent photo of the woman who heads the family | Printed on the card |
Who is eligible and who is not
Delhi cards are issued under the National Food Security Act in two categories: Antyodaya Anna Yojana for the poorest families and Priority Household for other eligible families. The income limit and the exclusions are set by Delhi's food security rules and the department's notices; check the latest notice on the food department website before applying.
Officials have said that families with a government job, income tax payers and owners of four wheelers are among those not eligible. A family member already on another ration card, in Delhi or elsewhere, must be removed there before being added to a new card.
How to apply for ration card in Delhi online: the form in detail
The menu names may differ slightly. Look for the department name Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs or the words ration card.
- Head of family: the NFSA names the eldest woman of 18 years or more as head wherever possible. Follow what the form asks.
- Members: add every person who lives and eats together. Anyone left out will need a separate add member application later.
- Address: give the full address with locality and pin code. It decides your circle and shop.
- Uploads: clear scans or phone photos, within the size limit shown.
Ration card apply online Delhi: after you submit
Your application goes to the Food and Supply Officer of your circle. The FSO reviews it and an inspector may visit your home. Verified files then go to the Assistant Commissioner, and a committee at district level has the last word. You can follow each stage in your e-District account or with the application number, as explained in our Delhi ration card status guide.
Once approved, the card is linked to a fair price shop. Every member should visit the shop for the Aadhaar fingerprint check before collecting rations.
Adding a member to an existing Delhi card
Babies, brides and other new members are added on e-District too, in the same Apply Online section. You will need the new member's Aadhaar, a birth or marriage certificate as relevant, and the existing ration card number. If the person is on another card, get them removed there first. The same verification chain applies.
