Quick steps
- Get the new member's Aadhaar readyEven small children need Aadhaar in most states before they can be added. Enrol the child at an Aadhaar centre first if needed.
- Arrange the relationship proofBirth certificate for a child, marriage certificate for a bride, and for a bride also proof that her name is removed from her parents' card.
- Log in on your state food portalUse the card number and the OTP on the registered mobile. Some states use a citizen services portal or a family record such as Family ID.
- Open Add Member and fill the detailsThe service is usually called Add Member, Inclusion of Member or Addition of Name. Type the name exactly as on Aadhaar and choose the relation to the head.
- Upload, submit and note the numberAttach the scans and submit. Save the acknowledgement number shown on screen or sent by SMS.
- Do eKYC once approvedAfter approval, take the new member to the shop for fingerprint or face eKYC so that grain is released for them too.

To add name in ration card online, sign in on your state's food site with the card number and registered mobile, open the add member service, and upload the new member's Aadhaar plus a child's birth certificate, or for a bride, her marriage proof. The supply office checks the request and, once approved, the name appears on the e-card and on the shop machine.
Families usually need this for three people: a newborn, a daughter in law who has joined the house, or an adult who was left out when the card was first made. Documents to add name in ration card online

How states take member additions
- Tamil Nadu: TNPDS has an add family member option after OTP login. Steps are on our Tamil Nadu add name page.
- West Bengal: Form 4 covers inclusion of a member where the household already holds a digital ration card, filed online or at the office. See our West Bengal apply guide.

- Rajasthan: a new member is first entered in the family's Jan Aadhaar, and the ration card picks it up from there.

Check ration card name add status
Search with the acknowledgement number on the state portal under Application Status or Track Request. Common stages are received, sent for field inquiry, approved and rejected. Once approved, download a fresh e-card and check the new member's name and age. If the portal shows approved but the dealer's machine does not list the person, wait for the next distribution cycle, since shop data refreshes on its own schedule. Adding a member offline
Where the online service is down or not available, take the printed member addition form to the block or taluk supply office. Attach self attested copies and write the card number at the top of every page. The clerk gives a receipt with a number; protect it, because without it you cannot follow up. You can find the right paper version on our forms page. A common service centre can also upload the request; the operator may take a fee for the work.
Why member addition gets rejected

Questions people ask
How to add new member in ration card online for a newborn baby?
Get the child's birth certificate and Aadhaar, log in on the state food portal and use the add member service. Choose son or daughter as the relation and upload both documents.
Can I add my wife's name before removing it from her parents' card?
Usually no. The system blocks an Aadhaar that is already on another card. Apply for removal from her old card first, then add her to yours.
Where can I find the ration card new member add form pdf download?
On your state food portal under Forms or Downloads, or at the supply office. West Bengal calls it Form 4.
How long does ration card member addition status take to show approved?
It depends on the state and whether a field check is needed. Check the status every week with your acknowledgement number.
Will the new member get ration right after approval?

Does adding a member change my card type?
