A ration card mobile number change online happens on your own state's food site, where you enter the card number, verify with Aadhaar or an OTP, and type the new number. Where no online option exists, the shop dealer or the supply office makes the change for you.
The registered number matters more than people think. It receives the OTP for downloads, the SMS after each ration collection, and messages about eKYC drives. If it belongs to a SIM you no longer use, almost every online service will fail for you. This page shows the routes state by state and what proof you need. Other services are on our home page.

Ways to do a ration card mobile number change online
| Route | Good for | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| State food portal | States with a mobile update service | Card number, Aadhaar, OTP |
| Family record systems | States where the card follows a family database | Family ID or family record number |
| Fair price shop machine | No online option or old SIM lost | Fingerprint of a member and the new number |
| Supply office | Everything else fails | Written request, Aadhaar copy, card copy |
State examples
- Haryana: the ration card reads the mobile from the Family ID record, so update the number in Family ID; see our Haryana Family ID guide.
- Delhi: the food portal has offered a mobile number update in its citizen section; our Delhi download page describes the portal.
- Tamil Nadu: the smart card login itself depends on the registered mobile, so a changed number has to be updated through the portal's request option or the taluk supply office; see our Tamil Nadu page.
- Rajasthan: the family's Jan Aadhaar record carries the contact number used by many state services, so update it there as well; see our Rajasthan page.
If your state does not appear, search the state portal for the word mobile.
E ration card mobile number link for the first time
Some older cards were made without any mobile. Linking a number for the first time is called mobile seeding on many portals. The process is the same as a change, except there is no old number to verify; Aadhaar OTP or a fingerprint at the shop does that job. Once linked, you can use the ration card download by mobile number route.
At the shop or supply office
Many states let the fair price shop dealer change the mobile through the shop device once a member gives a fingerprint. Ask politely and watch the screen while the dealer types. At the supply office, write a short application with the card number, the old and new mobile, and attach Aadhaar and card copies. A service centre can also file it, with a small service fee for their work.
Problems and what to do
| Problem | Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| OTP still goes to old number | Change not yet approved or not synced | Wait a few days, then check the reference number |
| Aadhaar OTP not coming | Aadhaar has a different or no mobile | Update mobile in Aadhaar first, or use the shop fingerprint route |
| Number already linked to another card | Same number used for a relative's card | Some states allow it, some do not; use another family number |
| No update option on portal | State only does it offline | Go to the shop or supply office |

Questions people ask
How to change mobile number in ration card online if I lost the old SIM?
Choose a route that verifies with Aadhaar OTP or fingerprint instead of the old number. If the state portal insists on the old number, get it changed at the ration shop or the circle office.
How to update mobile number in ration card online if my state portal has no such menu?
Ask the dealer to update it on the shop machine, or give a written request at the supply office. The central Mera Ration app is mainly for viewing details and filing grievances, so it is not the place to change the number.
Is the ration card mobile number link online the same as Aadhaar mobile?
No. They are separate records. Many portals send OTPs to the Aadhaar linked number, so it helps to keep both updated with the same number.
How long does a ration card mobile number update online take?
It varies by state, often a few days. Some updates at the shop machine reflect quickly, while office requests take longer.
Can I put two mobile numbers on one card?
Most portals store one main number per card. Some also keep a number for each member through their Aadhaar link.
