- Check the new member is free to be addedA bride or a relative must first be removed from their old family card. A newborn needs no such step.
- Log in with the card's registered mobileOpen tnpds.gov.in, finish the security check, then key in the family card's phone number followed by the code that arrives.
- Choose the add family member requestLook in the services shown after login. It is usually next to the member removal and address change options.
- Enter the new member's detailsCopy the spelling from the Aadhaar letter, then fill date of birth, gender, how the person is related to the head, and the 12 digit Aadhaar.
- Attach the certificate and send the formAdd a photo of the birth or marriage certificate and press submit. The screen and an SMS both carry the reference number; save it.
- Track until the name appearsUse the reference number on the status option. After approval, log in again and confirm the new name is listed.

Upload clear photos. A certificate photographed at an angle or in poor light is a common reason for return.
The bride's case: remove first, then add
Tamil Nadu's system will not accept an Aadhaar that is still on another family card. So for a new wife:
- Her parents file a removal request for her on their card, giving marriage as the reason.
- Wait until that request shows approved.
- Then her husband's family files the ration card add member online request in Tamilnadu with her Aadhaar and the marriage certificate.

How to add name in ration card online Tamilnadu for a newborn
A baby has no previous card, so the process is simpler. You need the birth certificate from the local body. Aadhaar for very young children is optional in many cases, but the form may ask for it; if your baby has a child Aadhaar, enter that number. Relation to the head will be son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter depending on who the head is.

Your file lands with the TSO in your taluk, or with the zonal civil supplies office for Chennai addresses. They check the documents and sometimes call or visit. When approved, the new member appears in the member list after OTP login. The quota at the shop may increase if your card type gives rice per person. For the new member to buy rations or use ONORC elsewhere, they need to complete the fingerprint eKYC at the ration shop.

Use the mobile OTP to reach your card on the portal, pick add family member, give the new person's details and Aadhaar, attach the certificate and send it. Track it with the reference number.
My wife is still on her father's card. Can I add her now?
No. The system rejects an Aadhaar that is on another card. Her father's family must first delete her name and get that approved.
Is Aadhaar compulsory to add a child to a TN ration card?
The birth certificate is the main proof for a baby. If the child already has Aadhaar, enter it; the form may require it, and it helps later with eKYC.
How long does it take to add a member in Tamil Nadu?
The department sets no single deadline; the speed of your taluk's verification decides it. Watch the status with the reference number, and phone the department if it stops moving.
Will the card number change after adding a member?
No. The smart card number stays the same. A new printed card is not always needed, since the shop works with the card number and fingerprint.
Can I add a member at an e-Sevai centre?
Yes. Carry the smart card, the phone that receives the OTP and the certificates. The centre can charge a modest service fee.
